Black History Month 2022: Crack Pipes and Black Women SCOTUS Nominees?

The Biden administration had a noteworthy jumpstart to Black History Month 2022! Only a month into its second year, the Biden-Harris administration continues to be out of touch with the needs of its base (descendants of slaves), and not for lack of input from grassroots Black Americans. Instead, Biden-Harris come off as tone deaf or acting on advice from the wrong “representatives” of Black America. Let’s autopsy the administration’s recent harm reduction announcement and the upcoming Supreme Court nomination.

Better than the War on Drugs?

This week, the administration announced a substance use “harm reduction plan” that incorporates a $30M investment including distribution of clean paraphernalia for use of meth and rock cocaine — like disease-preventing needle exchange programs for IV drug use. We’ll see if the distribution program is effective at decreasing substance use, preventing disease transmission, and increasing use of recovery services and physical/mental health care among substance users targeted by the plan. It can’t yield worse results than the devastating 50+-years-long War on Drugs and the continued 18:1 disparity between rock cocaine (aka “crack”) and powder cocaine. Right?
