Hmm. I would say mostly “no, don’t do that.” I depends on the situation and I would imagine the appropriate contexts for this are few. That is erasure of a different kind. Saying white and “non-white” amplifies white people and erases the specificity of everybody else. To reiterate the article, I believe the best approach to categorization is to call people EXACTLY what they are in regards to race, ethnicity, immigration status, and country of origin. It’s a four-part thing.
