Why Hilary Fordwich’s Take on Reparations is Bullshit
Colonizers Attempt to Wash Their Hands of Responsibility?
By now, you’ve seen the viral video of Hilary Fordwich telling Don Lemon that reparations need to start with Africa. Fordwich went on to say reparations are due to the 2,000 British troops who died getting Britain out of its slave trade. While people of European descent are all over the internet saying Fordwich “owned” Lemon and dropped the mic, I beg to differ. Even a cursory glance at history shows that Fordwich dropped a load of crap! While Don Lemon was ill-prepared to address the immoral deflection of responsibility, let’s make quick work of Hilary Fordwich’s nonsense.
Just like any other healthy relationship, Reparation (including commitment to end any residual harms) is necessary to heal the wounds and reconcile the divide.
In this post, I set the record straight from the American Freedmen/Black American perspective.
1. All parties who participated in the transatlantic slave trade are responsible for their participation, their parts, and the harms their contributions had on descendants of slaves and colonized lands.
2. Responsible parties include institutions like governments, the Catholic Church, the Church of England, etc. (See the video linked below)
